The whistleblower was identified by The Guardian as Mark MacGann, who served as the firm’s senior lobbyist in Europe from 2014 to 2016. MacGann leaked more than 120,000 documents, mostly emails but also WhatsApp chats and other types of media dubbed “Uber files.
According to a report based on the Uber Files, Uber put its drivers in South Africa in danger on purpose, which allowed it to fast transition from losing money to turning a profit while those drivers fell farther behind. In order to convince governments to reform taxi legislation on the grounds that the company would bring about economic gains, Uber, according to MacGann, ” sold people a lie.”
